The Executive Board of the ASN decided on the occasion of the ASN 10th Annual Convention that took place in New York 14 – 16 April 2005 that the next European ASN Conference will take place in Belgrade, Serbia, organized by Forum for Ethnic Relations.

For more than one year Forum for Ethnic Relations (FER), in cooperation with the Association for Study of Nationalities (ASN) and the Harriman Institut – Columbia University, New York, worked on the organization of the 2006 ASN European Conference.

ASN European Conference 2006 took place from 28th to 30th September, 2006 under the title 2006 ASN Conference on Globalization, Nationalism and Ethnic Conflict in the Balkans and its Regional Context (ASN Belgrade Conference 2006). The venue was Sava Center, Belgrade, Serbia.

This three day event hosted 313 registered participants (126 paper presenters, 90 discussants and chairs, 97 observers), eminent researchers and experts from all over the world as well as 58 accredited local and international media representatives. Program of the conference consisted of the main program (42 panel and panel discussions), Side events line up and a 3-day book exhibit.
