Apart from the official program, the organizers prepared a rich side events line up which consisted of book presentations, film screenings and research centre promotions (6 Book presentations, 9 Documentary film projections, 5 Promotional presentations). “Side Events” program took place in room 6 on the first floor and in the “Japanese Lounge”. Both of these rooms were equipped with audio-visual equipment for presentations and projections.

The side events program was designed to complement the main program of the conference and to follow the major themes: Globalization, nationalism and ethnic conflict in the Balkans and SouthEastern Europe. Each book, each film and each presentation was chosen with the overall goal of enriching the conference and providing another venue for stimulating debates and discussions. 

The side events program of the ASN Belgrade 2006 Conference started on Thursday, September 28th, 2006, with the presentation of the Journal of South Eastern Europe. It continued with the promotion of Rudolf Rizman’s book Uncertain Path: Democratic Transition and Consolidation in Slovenia, and after that Ivan Cvitkovic’s book Konfesije u ratu. There was also a presentation of the Christian Culture Centre, followed by the meeting of the founders of the Forum for Ethnic Relations and a meeting of the board members of the Journal of South Eastern Europe. Three documentary films were shown as well: Greetings from Kosovo, Terminus and Maturity Exam. The audience was very interested in these events, and there was an average of 30 people present. The press covered the events, especially RTS Channel 1 (Radio Televizija Srbije), but also RTK (Radio Television Kosovo).

On Friday, September 29th, 2006, there were two book promotions: Zapisi iz Srbije by Dusan Janjic, and Ambasadorski zapisi by Slavko Milosavlevski, as well as the promotion of the special edition of the journal Review Limes Plus dedicated to Vojvodina and its prospects for European integration. The press covered all three events, and they were visited by an average of 30 people.  The Institute for Historical Justice and Reconcilliation held a reception for members ofthe Scholars’ Initiative. There were also five film screenings, which gathered a large audience and sparked interesting and lively debates: Cinema and Human Rights: Memory and Reconciliation by Giulia Grassilli, Once They Were Neighbours by Zsuzsanna Varga and Borbala Kriza, Kosovo - Emancipation of Kosovo Albanians by Izabela Kisic, Kosovo and Metohija 98-2005 by Ninoslav Ranđelović and After Srebrenica by Luka Zanoni.

The day finished in the Crystal Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Hotel, with the Interactive Working Dinner and the keynote speech of former president of Macedonia, Kiro Gligorov. 120 esteemed guests attended the dinner. The goal of this event was to connect participants of the ASN Belgrade Conference 2006 with local and regional politicians, business people and sponsors of the conference.

On Saturday, September 30th, 2006 the audience was drawn in large numbers to the opening presentation of the day, which was dedicated to Vojvodina in the 21st century. The events continued with the presentation of Dragoljub Zamurovic’s photomonograph The Danube Odyssey, followed by the presentation of the Center for Nonviolent Resistance on the Needs of the Serbian Community in Kosovo, and the presentation of the news agency Tanjug. The film of the day was Zelimir Zilnik’s Europe next door.
